Episode One

Apollo's Son

Sachi's Marcantonio Pasqualini (1614–1691), bad-ass baroque rock star, Crowned by Apollo ~ see it at the Met in NYC

Phoibos [Apollon], of you even the swan sings with clear voice to the beating of his wings, as he alights upon the bank by the eddying river Peneios; and of you the sweet-tongued minstrel, holding his high-pitched lyre, always sings both first and last.

Homeric Hymn 21 to Apollo

Miss O's Pb Airship '86 Swan Song poster inspired by William Rimmer: tribute to Lucifer or Apollo? "William Rimmer: painter and sculptor, born in Liverpool, Merseyside, NW England, UK. His family emigrated to the Boston area (1818), and his father claimed he was the lost Dauphin of France, a claim William also made. William grew up in poverty, and after working as a typesetter, cobbler, and self-taught doctor, he became a sculptor, painter, and respected teacher in New York and Boston. He is best known for his publication, The Elements of Design (1864), and for his mystical and enigmatic paintings, such as Flight and Pursuit (1872)."

"Well I'll be dipped," Mrs. Olivia Pistolini née Peyton mused aloud, biting on the blunt end of a Pegasus letter opener while she addressed her cat, Lucky Kentucky. "Is it possible that the artist who inspired the greatest rock band in history's logo was the grandson of Marie Antoinette?"

"Greatest rock band in history," was of course Olivia's adoring way of referring to the legendary British 70's group, Pb Airship. While many speculated as to what Pb actually signified, the Peyton sleuth was quite certain that the mysterious moniker was a clever abbreviation for the Latin plumbum, an elemental familiar to most chemistry students as Lead. It was all very alchemical, she was convinced, especially since the founder of Pb, Master James Mage, was himself rumored to be an esoteric genius, as well as a pretty damn good guitar player. "Pythagoras of Samos always claimed that music is the key to all the Mysteries," Olivia informed Lucky, before turning up the volume on her laptop so she could better hear Mage, Bobby Slant, Paul John Bones & J. Roger Jolly make their musical magick.
